Technology tools are great! They open up possibilities for learning and training through different avenues. While I feel I have a good "grasp" on technology, I know my knowledge is not what it should be. Recently at work, I have been tasked with making short information videos about my services, the grant I work for, and other pieces. I have teamed up with my eLearning Department for some helpful tips and tricks. I was also extremely excited to sign up to research the technology tools "Explain Everything" and/or "educreation".
What I am curious about is, has anyone had any experience with video learning? I have no problem being in front of a camera. I am interested to hear what "hooks" someone into staying engaged in a video.
QUESTIONS
1. Have you ever created educational videos? If so, what worked and what didn't?
2. Put yourself in the position of a student/ learner. What would intrigue you to engage more in an educational video?

LinkedIn Anyone?
This week, I realized that PLN's are not limited to what you use at work alone. They can be your social media platforms. One social media outlet that I think crossed from business into personal is LinkedIn. I am constantly sharing articles from organizations and helpful tips focusing on my line of work. I thought it a good idea to share my LinkedIn profile. If anyone else used LinkedIn, please feel free to connect with me! I take critique very well, so any suggestion to make my profile better is always welcomed!

Realizing Opportunities!
You know what's interesting? Thinking back on your professional and academic life and realizing how many organic PLN's you were a part of. If I had realized that I was in something more than a group of individuals discussing related ideas, would I have been able to utilize the opportunity I had? If only someone from the future would have come to me and said "Becky! Realize the opportunity in front of you!" While there is nothing I can do about it now, it makes me think of how I can develop and take advantage of the tools I have at my fingertips.
How can I develop a PLN based on the work I am doing and be sure the network has the proper individuals and skill sets included? To me, this is a difficult question and an even more difficult one to execute. I think it is important to look at the goal and develop around that. Interestingly enough, that goal may change. This is where making sure the individuals in the group are able to accommodate change and still be able to execute. Determining skill sets is important, but I do think there is a benefit to having a PLN happen organically. Sometimes an outside perspective is exactly what is needed to bring clarity.
It is hard to really pinpoint who and what is needed in the beginning. Asking yourself, and the network, the "who", "what", "where", "when", "how", and "why" questions provide a good starting point. A clear identity is essential and the development can happen to branch off that.
Questions to end on: Are you currently in a PLN? If so, what do you find to be most beneficial?

Are YOU in a PLN?
Personal Learning Networks, or PLN's are a great way to contribute and work off others ideas. Do you even realize that you might be in one now? After learning more about PLN's and reading the resources provided, I had this realization that I am in several of these networks right now! While they are great and I would be lost if I was not in these PLN's for my professional career, can they be advanced and utilized more effectively?
I began to think about the grant I am currently working on. It is a Department of Labor- Trade Adjustment Assistant Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) grant. These grants have been around for much of the Obama administration and several colleges have benefited from them. Instead of each grant starting new and having to work out the kinks, documents from previous grants are stored in a repository called Skills Common. Grants that are currently in existence still have monthly webinars to ask questions and share ideas. So this made me think, how are these methods relevant to the HRD world? How can PLN's be used and utilized to help projects and companies grow?
Much of what I have gathered from HRD/OLP practices, is that success is gathered through collaboration. One persons perspective on how things operate can be a major cause of failure. Collaboration and the sharing of ideas and perspectives is what helps not only the HRD profession, but also projects and people grow. If you take out that piece, your success will look drastically different. This is where evaluations become essentials. Knowing what is working, what is not, and why to both sides help growth happen.
The trick is to keep your PLN organized and under control. They need to be strategic, yet open to ideas and assistance. Having to many irons in the fire can lead to work and ideas never coming to complete, so structure is essential and that, for me would be the biggest struggle. I have never lead a PLN, so maybe it's time to try something new!

Having Fun With Blogs!
Hi everyone!
My name is Becky Rhoades and I am in Dr. Lindbeck's OLP Instructional Tech course at ISU! While creating this blog is a requirement of the course, it is also going hand-in-hand with the professional work this semester! My role is to work with individuals in specific grant funded programs on the transition from academia to employment. One of those programs is Certified Nursing Assistant through 3 North Idaho College- Workforce Training Centers. This program has a short lifetime where being able to provide students with the tools for success is a bit more difficult, than say someone completing an 11 month certificate. So how am I suppose to offer my services, not only in such a short period of time, but also to students at branch locations? Blogging!
This conversation was had a week before the semester began, once we realized previous methods were not true best practices. As this course began for me, I realized this was perfect and the right method to take! I have been given the opportunity to develop a Student Success Center website, where my blogging on different tips and techniques can delivered to a mass number of students at one time. We were also to pick a topic to research for the semester on educational technology tools and I chose Educreations https://www.educreations.com . I have begun the collaboration with eLearning at NIC to incorporate some education videos for the students as well.
I am more than excited for not only this semester, but also to implement my course work into my current position professionally. Stayed tuned! I hope to share my work with you all!
