Get With the 21st Century, Becky!

When I think of something I do every day, I know I can include;

  • Brushing my teeth
  • Eating
  • Googling something
So if I find myself on Google every day, why is it I am so dense in all things Google? Maybe it's because I am a Mac girl, or I could stop making excuses and admit I struggle to embrace new things. When people suggest using Google Drive, I always ignore the invitation and continue sending docs via email, dropbox, etc.  Well... here I am, hitting my head because I never took the time to accept this technology tool before.

Last semester, I had to use Google to create a survey and I found that to be pretty user-friendly, but other than for this class, I never found myself using the tool. After reading and practicing Andrew Wichmann's tutorial on Google Drive provided in the e-book, I realized that Google Drive has a lot of benefits. After just this week, I have started using it as not a way to share information, but as a repository for housing my documents. All my drafts and documents are being stored there now so no matter where I am, I can access my work. It's a cloud, which when used properly is a great benefit. My next step now is to make my Google Drive account personalized, then it will truly feel like home!! :)

What tools did you learn about this week?

Reflections Are More Entertaining With A Dog In The Background

Today I am going to share some pieces of this semester that I found not only interesting, but also helpful! A lot of the attached video is my reflection on some "AH-HA" moments I had and how I found value in the tools we researched. At the risk of typing out what I discussed, just watch my video! And enjoy Russel, my dog for your viewing pleasure :)

What's All the HubBub About Needed Skills?

We hear about it all the time...there is a deficit of a certain skill set entering the workforce. But what are these "skills" people are talking about? You have maybe heard them called a number of things from:

Yet, if you read the articles attached to each "skill", they are addressing the same needs. A percentage of individuals entering the workforce are missing a commonality...how to communicate.

Now, there is no need to point fingers at why this deficit is taking place. It could be a number of factors, but that is not what I am discussing today. Communication simply looks different, therefore, if individuals want to market themselves as viable candidates for the workforce, mastering these skills can give you a leg up.

The video below addresses 7 skills which encompass interpersonal skills and why they are needed in the workforce.

Have you ever been in a position to hire an individual? What were some of the things you were looking for? Or, for those who have not been in a position to hire, what are some of these skills you need to improve or consider a strength?
